>>5039 >Muto had a Wingman Nope At the time, Mutoh was separated from the rest of his squadron (consisting of A6Ms and few more prototype N1K2s) which was engaged with another squadron elsewhere He engaged against the Hellcats all alone Oh, did I mention his N1K2 was painted bright orange because it was a prototype? Saburo Sakai (who Mio is based on) was a close friend of Mutoh and they flew together often as well Sakai commented that Mutoh had real talent for flying while he himself was only good because of extreme cautiousness. In June 1945, Mutoh was reassigned from Yokosuka Naval Air Group where he was a test pilot to 343rd Naval Air Group to replace injured Sakai in combat missions. He was personally asked by Minoru Genda, commander of 343rd NAG to protect Naoshi Kanno (who Naoe is based on) at all cost. Mutoh replied that "Kanno won't die as long as I'm there" He and Kanno with 19 other squadron members engaged American carrier air group of over 200 aircrafts on July 24, 1945 (by the way, this is the date the finale of second season first aired). Mutoh covered Kanno throughout the battle, successfully saving him on multiple occasions. Kanno made it back to base alive, but Mutoh was never found. Sakai who survived the war, considered that Mutoh died in his place and regretted that he wasn't the one to die even decades after the war ended. So I'm okay if not kind of glad that Yoshika is a bit overpowered. Things like what happened in real life won't be happening to them. I do agree that Yoshika's strength could have been presented better, though. Pic related is N1K2 recovered from bottom of the sea which is said to be the one Mutoh was flying when he went MIA.
